If you’re like me you like puzzles, specifically rebuses. If not, what are you doing here? You might recall the last time down rebus lane I did old movies puzzles, this trip features TV shows. There’s 16 to begin with, but I will be adding new puzzling bits to this page from time to time in sections of six or so puzzles each. At least that’s the plan. We’ll see how it goes. You never know.

Here’s how it works

• Each single row of pics and symbols decode to spoken sounds of words, syllables or letters
• Letters with a plus (+) are sounds added to the accompanying pic
• Letters with a minus (-) are sounds subtracted from the accompanying pic
• Letters by themselves are the sound of the letter’s name (S is “ess” not “sss”)
• Brackets indicate a sound is being spelled out, [sea a tea] = cat
• Mouseover rebus to show the meanings of the pics and symbols
• Mouseover pic meanings to show the solution to the puzzle

Canned Laughter in B/W and Color

Not that sound can be in B/W or color, that’s just a hint for you to suss out the theme of the following rebuses. They might be easy to figure out, if you’re an old TV show fan. Or a young fan of retro TV. Either way, I’ll let the thematic cat out of the bag at the end. You know, below.

As you may have figured out, all the shows in these rebuses are Sixties sit-coms which ran complete with canned laughter. Whether they would make a person rather than a machine laugh is something I can’t answer. I enjoyed them back in the day. But then, I was in grade school, so there is that.
